Dextera Helps CAP Media Deliver For Employees

In 2004, CAP Media, a growing shared-mail services company was looking for additional ways to enhance their high-performing company. The company had strong employee relations, but wanted to make sure everything possible was being done to ensure long-term success by maximizing productivity and retention of staff, as well as being responsive to any submerged issues with the direction and management of the firm.

CAP’s HR Director had discovered Dextera via the Central Arkansas Human Resource Association and called the Business Services firm to make a recommendation. An initial project was defined and agreed upon, and Dextera soon began to set up both an employee survey and a “360” review of CAP’s senior management.

A “360” review is a method of gathering performance-related input from an individual’s supervisor, peers, and direct reports. Various patterns emerge which provide insight into that individual’s strengths as well as the way the individual relates to various co-workers. Dextera has used this tool with several clients who have consistently been pleased with the resulting information and guidance.

Not long after the project was underway, CAP encountered a problem: the resignation of the HR director (for the best of personal reasons — family growth). Having quickly gained confidence in Dextera’s abilities and resources, the identified solution was for Dextera to assume responsibility for the HR function at CAP. Dextera principals provided executive expertise and support, and Dextera provided dedicated professional staff on-site at CAP to maintain easy access for CAP staff to the support they needed.

As this arrangement became established, CAP and Dextera determined that some HR-related functions that had been outsourced in the past could be enhanced in a cost-effective way if combined with Dextera’s responsibilities. To that end, the companies agreed to expand the on-site support, with Dextera agreeing to maintain a full-time HR professional on location at CAP. Staffing, training, regulatory interpretation, and value-added interface with legal counsel were among those included by this time in Dextera’s direct responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the original project of employee survey and “360” had uncovered some issues in executive management that required attention. Dextera walked side by side with CAP through a sometimes difficult process of management realignment. “We absolutely could not have done these things without Dextera’s help,” according to Albert Braunfisch, CEO of CAP.

Over the next several months, Dextera worked with CAP to use the formal survey as well as to identify and install enhancements in staffing, training, evaluation, and communication processes at CAP. This is supporting continued success and growth for CAP.
